June Grace Barney

June Grace (Crippen) Barney, age 84, passed away peacefully at the Franklin County Medical Center Nursing Home in Preston, Idaho on Sunday, July 6, 2008, of causes incident to age. June was born in Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon on June 24, 1924 to Elmer Joseph Asa and Mae Maudie (Tooley) Crippen. June met her future husband, Cpl. Milton Alvin Barney, when he attended LDS Church services in Grants Pass, Oregon in November 1942. Milton was stationed at Camp White, near Medford, Oregon, for training with the U.S. Army prior to his being shipped overseas to join the fighting in France and Germany during World War II. They dated for a very short time and then letters became their lifeline until he returned to his home in Utah in late December 1945 after the War was over. They were married in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on January 28, 1946. They settled on the family farm in Elberta, Utah, and over the almost 20 years they were together, they were blessed with six sons and four daughters. September 30, 1965 a tragic mining accident took Milton's life. June has always been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has held various positions in Relief Society, Sunday School, MIA and Primary, and enjoyed singing in Ward and Stake Choirs, she had a nice alto voice. She was a faithful visiting teacher, and enjoyed attending the temple. Later in life she enjoyed being in the senior citizen choir. Some of June's interests over the years have been reading books, scrapbooking, crafts, making quilts for her children and grandchildren, listening to music, playing the harmonica and piano, collecting stamps, writing to pen pals, growing flowers, cooking and canning, collecting dolls, reading newspapers, going on vacations, and going to antique stores. She always enjoyed visits from family members and going to the senior citizen's center. It was important for her to remember her children and grandchildren with a card on their birthdays. June has always been a hard worker, and continually doing service for her family; she loved her children very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister, her husband, and a son, Arnold (Pam) Barney of Perryville, AK. Survivors include sons and daughters, Blaine (Carolyn) Barney of West Valley City, UT; Velda (Jack Herdt) Embry of Pioche, NV; Teresa McKinney of Willowsprings, MO; Gloria (Paul) Starkey of Fruit Heights, UT; Lt. Col. Loren (Mary) Barney now serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq; Curtis (Jean) Barney of Nampa, ID; Gerald (Robin) Barney of Las Vegas, NV; Karen (Byron) Badham of Hyrum, UT; and Noel (Susan) Barney of Preston, ID.
