Obituary of Luetta June Pollnow

Luetta June Pollnow, 88, of Oberlin, Kansas passed away on May 27, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society of Decatur County. She was born on October 16, 1930 to Darl and Amy (Uehlin) Schweitzberger at CC and Julia Uehlin’s farm.

Luetta grew up North of Oberlin and attended Vallonia School and East Liberty School and then graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1948. She went on to attend college at Hays and then began teaching. Luetta taught grades 1-8 at Lyle, Kanona and Beaver Valley country schools. She married Hughie Pollnow on June 4, 1951 and to that marriage daughters, Diana and Kay were born. They rented the “Brown Place” North of Traer. In 1973, they moved to Luetta’s family farm, the “Schweitzberger Place” in Liberty Township. Luetta was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening.

Luetta was preceded in death by her parents, Darl and Amy Schweitzberger; husband, Hughie and brother, Garrold Schweitzbeger. She is survived by her sister, Metta Johnson of Spokane Valley, WA; daughters: Diana Steinmetz and husband Sam of Oberlin, KS and Kay Matheny and husband Gary of Oberlin on the family farm; granddaughter, Amanda Johnson and husband Shane and their children, Judson and Jackson all of Benkelman, NE and grandson, Andrew Chambers of Culbertson, NE.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin, KS. Burial will follow at Oberlin Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the United Methodist Church of Oberlin. Condolences may be left at www.paulsfh.com
